Marion wrestlers take win over Herrin

MARION WRESTLERS TAKE WIN OVER HERRIN

Again using mostly junior varsity wrestlers, the Marion Wildcats wrestling team improved to 7-0 with a 41-27 win at Herrin on Thursday. Most of the wrestlers didn't even have to wrestle. Marion took forfeits in three weight classes, gave up forfeits to Herrin in three weight classes and declared double forfeits in two. On the actual mat, Marion's Allen Abernathy notched a first-period pin at 136 pounds, then Jordan Dwyer won a technical fall at 152. Dwyer was Marion's only official varsity wrestler in the match. Herrin's Eric Homan defeated Marion's Noah James at 160 by decision, then Marion got six points from Thomas Dudley at 182 with a quick pin of Jarrett Wolaver. Herrin heavyweight Frank Mannie quickly pinned Marion's Tyler Teal, then Gage Kent filled in for Gaige Owens at 106 and notched a pin for the Wildcats. Marion's next competition is Saturday in a dual team tournament in Clarksville, Tennessee. The Wildcats host Pinckneyville next Wednesday.
