MARION BASEBALL DOWNS COLLINSVILLE

Cory Howard pitched into the fifth inning and helped produce a pair of runs as the Marion High School baseball team downed Collinsville, 7-2, Saturday at the Crisp Sports Complex. Howard was lifted at the 75-pitch mark in the fifth after striking out five and Christian Burgrabe finished up for the Wildcats, who improved to 10-4 with the win. In the first inning, Brendan Soldner singled and scored on a hit by Drake Gravatt, then Austin Palmer added an RBI single later in the frame. Collinsville tied it up in the second, but Howard doubled and Soldner came through with a two-out RBI single in the fourth to put the Wildcats back in front to stay. Then in the fifth, Mitchell Jackson doubled to start a four-run rally that included an RBI from Howard and a two-run double by David Fletcher. Gravatt capped it with a run-scoring single.
