Marion cross country team sending runners to sectionals

MARION CROSS COUNTRY TEAM SENDING RUNNERS TO SECTIONALS

The Marion High School cross country teams ran at the Triad 2A Sectional on Saturday. Marion's boys placed fourth to advance to sectionals as a team, while in the girls race Margaux Bruce and Mari Ray advanced as individuals from non-advancing teams. Ray placed 12th in 20:45 and Bruce was 27th in 21:31. Triad won the boys team title, winning in a tiebreaker over Carbondale, followed by Mascoutah and Marion. Mascoutah's Casmir Cozzi was the top individual with a time of 15:58, beating out runner-up Ethan Cherry of Carbondale by 17 seconds. Marion's top finisher was Taylor Dreyer, who placed eight in 16:50. He was followed by Joe Sullins (20th, 17:20), Steven Kosco (22nd, 17:23), Matthew Crabtree (23rd, 17:26), Jack Gregory (31st, 17:48), Isaac Donaldson (51st, 18:31) and Logan Morgan (52nd, 18:38). Marion's boys and the two individual girls now advance to the Decatur MacArthur Sectional race this coming Saturday.
