LADY WILDCATS LOSE SOUTH SEVEN OPENER AT CENTRALIA

- The Marion High School girls basketball team fell into a deep early hole and couldn't climb out in a 45-27 loss at Centralia to open South Seven Conference play on Tuesday. Sophomore Natalie Edson hit two 3-pointers and scored eight of her game-high 11 points in the first quarter to help the Annies push out to a 21-3 lead. Marion got back in the game with an 8-2 run in the second quarter and eventually won the frame. Daishen Wolaver scored all of her team-high eight points in the period, but Centralia went into halftime holding a 28-16 lead. Centralia's Alyssa Hutton had all of her nine points in the first half. Freshman Lily Garrett finished as Marion's second-leading scorer with six points. Jordan Turner had four. In the JV game, Marion won 42-28 with Garrett (13 points) and Grace Connor (11) hitting double figures. Marion plays Monday at Belleville Althoff and is at home Tuesday against Meridian and again Thursday against Anna-Jonesboro.
