Basketball season opened in a big way for the Herrin Lady Tigers this week. Herrin High School senior guard Madisyn Blankenship set a new school record for girls basketball, nailing nine 3-pointers Tuesday in her team's 62-33 win over Meridian. The previous record of seven was set by Austyn Ridings a decade ago. The nine triples also equals the overall school record set by Bronson Nesler three years ago. The HHS boys traveled to Carterville for the Pyramid Tournament. The Tigers dropped the first game Tuesday night to Mt. Vernon, 52-42.
