Wildcat wrestlers set new school record

WILDCAT WRESTLERS SET NEW SCHOOL RECORD

The Marion High School wrestling team entered a home quad meet last Thursday with a 24-3 record. Wrestling first with Paducah Tillman, the Wildcats took it down to the final matches. In the 195 class, a match up of two ranked wrestlers saw Marion's River Flute win by pin in 5:07 against Uriah Virzi. Also securing wins against Tillman were Wildcats Kanye Gunn, Gaige Owens, Landon White, Nate Dampier, Aden White, and Malekei Weatherly. Marion took the dual title with a 45-32 win, tying the school record for wins in a season with 25. Marion then battled a high-ranked squad from Jackson, Missouri., losing 52-21, its record falling to 25-4. Marion finished the night by avenging last season's loss to Anna-Jonesboro. With a 45-36 win, the Wildcats broke their own season wins record, improving to 26-4 on the season. The Wildcats will be in action tonight at home against county rival Herrin. It is Senior Night for the Wildcats.
